Kumin Sommers attends first ever "Laid-Off Camp"

A group of local people in San Francisco who have recently been laid-off, organized themselves into Laid-Off Camp.

People organized themselves over the internet, mainly through Facebook, and created a really good event yesterday. I went with my partner and set-up a booth to talk to people specifically about how to make sure they receive unemployment insurance, and generally about whatever legal issues they may be facing with their former employers or if they want to start a new business. Matt and I presented a discussion on employment and small business issues with Erik Ward from San Francisco's Office of Economic and Workforce Development. The event received quite a bit of attention. This story I heard on NPR on my way to the office this morning.
